One of our clients sells novelty hobby items that help people relax. They signed on with us early in 2019 with 0 email revenue. By June, our campaigns and flows were doing 40% of their total revenue.
At that point, we figured it was time to explore more opportunities for revenue generation.
We decided to set up messenger automations through OctaneAI, and in just one week earned an extra $1,504.57.
Here’s how we did it.
Timeframe: 1 week
New subscribers: 298
Step One: Getting subscribers
We used a few different techniques to get new subscribers into the messenger lists.
The Add To Cart Checkbox
This is the easiest and simplest way to get extra people added to the email subscriber list. It simply added a check-in box that gives them the option to receive purchase updates through Facebook messenger.
We added a simple pop-up that customers will see when they’re on your page. The default message is pictured here, but we customized the message to suit our client’s business.
Customer Chat Widget
The customer chat widget let us set up an automated bot to interact with customers. We picked some of the most common questions customers ask (like tracking their shipping) and set up automated responses and conversations so that people can get a quick reply.
It also gives people the option to send you a message that your customer service team can reply to, making you much more accessible to your customers.
Step Two: Automations
We set up a handful of automations that customers would be added to based on specific triggers. Here’s an example of how just one of those did in the first week (you can see that as soon as it went live, there was a huge rise in revenue):
In other words, if you don’t have this set up, you’re completely missing out on potential revenue! Setting up these automations before you set up any sort of campaign is ideal — just check out the boost it got on the 4th of July!
OctaneAI also just added their Browse Abandon flow, which means we can target people who are interested in specific products with tailored content.
There’s even a section for custom flows, where you can set up all sorts of automations to keep your customers and potential customers engaged with your content.
Step 3: Bot Identity and Convos
Creating a Bot Identity helped people connect to the business and see our lighthearted side. It also helps them feel like we’re approachable and friendly.
Once we had our bot set up, we created a custom main menu. This is where customers can access those special convos we mentioned earlier, like tracking their order or speaking with a customer service representative.
Once customers are in, we can send them promotional messages and they get added to the flow automations.
The key to success in setting up a messenger bot is creating a consistent voice and strategy across your digital strategy. That’s why we set it up to work with our email campaigns.
When we ran a sale, we also sent out broadcasts on messenger, which helped generate extra revenue on top of the automations that were set up before the sale.
Total Cost Vs. Revenue Generated
A Pro subscription of OctaneAI cost our client $209 per month (although the first 30 days are free!). At the end of week one, we had generated $1,504.57 in revenue.
That’s a 620% return on investment in just the first week. As the month goes by, more people will be added to the messenger list, as well as the automations.
The ROI simply keeps growing!
